How the Banking and Fintech Score Is Calculated

The overall score is a weighted average across eight indicators. Nomadino calculates: banking and fintech score = expat banking ease × 0.20 + banking stability × 0.18 + international SWIFT wire access × 0.16 + fintech development × 0.15 + ATM availability × 0.10 + banking secrecy index × 0.08 + automatic tax-information exchange × 0.07 + cash payment limit × 0.06.

  • Expat banking ease: 20%
  • Banking stability: 18%
  • International SWIFT wire access: 16%
  • Fintech development: 15%
  • ATM availability: 10%
  • Banking secrecy index: 8%
  • Automatic tax-information exchange: 7%
  • Cash payment limit: 6%

Nomadino uses normalized indicator scores on a 0 to 100 scale, where higher means better practical banking, payment and fintech conditions. Account opening, banking stability and international transfers receive the highest combined weight because a country is only strong if foreigners can get an account, the banking system is resilient and money can move internationally in a reliable way.

Fintech is almost as important because digital payments, mobile accounts and modern financial services shape daily usability. ATMs remain relevant, but receive a lower weight because they mainly capture cash access and backup resilience. Banking secrecy and automatic tax-information exchange represent the privacy and transparency side, but should not dominate the board. Cash payment limits are a supplementary freedom and everyday-use indicator, so they receive the smallest weight. If an indicator is removed with the checkbox, Nomadino divides by the sum of the remaining weights, preserving the relative importance of the active indicators.
