How the Family Friendliness Score Is Calculated

The overall score is an equally weighted average across seven indicators. Nomadino calculates: family friendliness score = childcare cost, paid parental leave, child benefit, child poverty, child safety, childcare coverage and playground density, each with a weight of 1/7.

Nomadino uses normalized indicator scores on a 0 to 100 scale, where higher means better conditions for families with children. The ranking combines recurring childcare costs, paid time after birth, state cash support, material child poverty, safety, care coverage and child-friendly outdoor spaces.

All seven indicators are weighted equally because family friendliness does not depend on a single factor. Affordable childcare helps less if leave, safety or childcare capacity are weak; generous cash benefits do not fully offset high child poverty or missing play and care infrastructure. If an indicator is removed with the checkbox, Nomadino divides by the sum of the remaining weights, preserving the relative importance of the active indicators.
