How the Legal Protection and Property Score Is Calculated

The overall score is a weighted average across six indicators. Nomadino calculates: legal protection and property score = rule of law × 0.30 + property rights security × 0.25 + corruption perception × 0.18 + police effectiveness × 0.12 + expropriation risk × 0.10 + extradition risk × 0.05.

  • Rule of law: 30%
  • Property rights security: 25%
  • Corruption perception: 18%
  • Police effectiveness: 12%
  • Expropriation risk: 10%
  • Extradition risk: 5%

Rule of law receives the highest weight because it underpins courts, contract enforcement, predictable administration and protection against arbitrary state action. Property rights security is weighted almost as strongly because this ranking explicitly measures possession, real-estate and asset security. Corruption perception is weighted clearly because good laws matter less if permits, courts or administrative decisions are purchasable or unpredictable. Police effectiveness is weighted at a medium level because rights need practical enforcement. Expropriation risk is severe, but rarer and partly overlaps with rule of law and property protection. Extradition risk remains included, but receives a lower weight because it is central only for specific personal risk profiles. For expropriation risk and extradition risk, Nomadino uses the normalized score where higher is better.
