How the LGBTQ+ Friendliness Score Is Calculated

The overall score is a weighted average across five indicators. Nomadino calculates: same-sex legal status × 0.25 + LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination × 0.30 + LGBTQ+ social acceptance × 0.25 + LGBTQ+ rights × 0.10 + Pride culture × 0.10.

  • Same-sex legal status: 25%
  • LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination: 30%
  • LGBTQ+ social acceptance: 25%
  • LGBTQ+ rights: 10%
  • Pride culture: 10%

This ranking separates hard protection rights, relationship status, social acceptance, broader LGBTQ+ rights and visible Pride culture. It therefore rates not just marriage, but whether people can live protected, accepted and visible lives day to day.

Anti-discrimination receives the highest weight because protection from unequal treatment in work, housing, education, services and public space is decisive for everyday safety. Marriage and social acceptance each carry 25 percent. Broader rights and Pride culture remain visible but are weighted lower so they do not double-count the core rights too strongly.
