How the Nature and Outdoor Score Is Calculated

The overall score is a weighted average across five indicators. Normalized to actual effect, Nomadino calculates: nature and outdoor score = beach quality × 0.222222 + mountain access × 0.222222 + protected land area × 0.222222 + biodiversity × 0.222222 + forest cover × 0.111112.

Nomadino uses normalized indicator scores on a 0 to 100 scale, where higher means better access to nature, landscapes and outdoor activities. Beach quality, mountain access, protected land area and biodiversity receive the highest weights because they broadly describe a country's natural foundations.

Sports and fitness facilities are evaluated separately in the leisure and recreation board. Forest cover receives a lower weight because the share of forest alone says less about accessibility, safety, climate or landscape diversity. If an indicator is removed with the checkbox, Nomadino divides by the sum of the remaining weights, preserving the relative importance of the active indicators.
