How the Safety and Risk Score Is Calculated
The overall score is a weighted average across six topic scores. Nomadino calculates: safety and risk score = conflicts and political security × 0.25 + crime and personal safety × 0.22 + legal protection and property × 0.18 + long-term stability × 0.15 + natural hazards × 0.12 + privacy and surveillance × 0.08.
- Conflicts and political security: 25%
- Crime and personal safety: 22%
- Legal protection and property: 18%
- Long-term stability: 15%
- Natural hazards: 12%
- Privacy and surveillance: 8%
Nomadino uses the normalized topic scores on a 0 to 100 scale, where higher means better or safer conditions. Conflicts and political security receive the highest weight because war, political violence, terrorism and geopolitical escalation can directly affect stays, mobility, insurance, supplies and personal safety. Crime and personal safety are weighted almost as strongly because they shape everyday movement, housing choices and travel. Legal protection and property also receive a high weight because police, courts, corruption levels and property rights determine whether people and assets are practically protected when problems occur.
Long-term stability captures more structural risks such as political stability, economic resilience, administration and social cohesion. Natural hazards remain relevant, but are weighted lower because exposure often varies strongly within countries. Privacy and surveillance are included deliberately, but receive the lowest weight because they mostly describe digital, legal and civic security risks rather than immediate physical safety. If a topic is removed with the checkbox, Nomadino divides by the sum of the remaining weights, preserving the relative importance of the active topics.
