How Vacation Costs Are Calculated

The topic score is a weighted average of five indicators. Nomadino calculates: vacation costs = hotel cost × 0.25 + vacation rental cost × 0.20 + attraction entry cost × 0.20 + tour and activity cost × 0.20 + tourist taxes and fees × 0.15.

  • Hotel cost: 25%
  • Vacation rental cost: 20%
  • Attraction entry cost: 20%
  • Tour and activity cost: 20%
  • Tourist taxes and fees: 15%

This topic contains only vacation-specific costs that are not already covered by general cost boards. Restaurant, local transport, car-rental, mobile-data and general cost-of-living indicators remain in the existing categories.

Hotel costs receive the highest weight because accommodation is usually the largest direct vacation-cost block. Vacation rentals, attraction entry, and tour and activity costs each follow with 20 percent because they can strongly shape the budget depending on travel style. Tourist taxes and add-on fees count for 15 percent so mandatory charges are visible without displacing ordinary lodging and activity prices.

The source frame mainly uses UN Tourism data, Eurostat tourism data, national tourism and statistical authorities, official price lists from attractions and parks, municipal sources on tourist taxes, OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, UNESCO context, and maintained Nomadino indicators on accommodation, activities and local costs as plausibility context.

All five indicators use US-dollar raw values. Lower raw values lead to higher ratings, so the ranking points to more affordable vacation-cost conditions.
