How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The visible raw value is the current account balance as a percentage of gross domestic product. It is shown as a concrete percentage: negative values mean a deficit, positive values mean a surplus. Nomadino keeps the score separate and converts the macro value into points from 0 to 100.

The basis is World Bank indicator BN.CAB.XOKA.GD.ZS for current account balance as a percentage of GDP. For directly covered countries, Nomadino uses the latest available non-empty World Bank value as the raw value. Countries and territories without a separate World Bank series use maintained percent replacement values, marked in the source field.

For the score, Nomadino translates this same visible percentage into points from 0 to 100. Higher current-account balances receive higher points until the upper cap is reached only in the very high-surplus range. This means a country with a higher raw value cannot receive a lower point value.

The point scale penalises deep deficits strongly because they can point to external financing needs and balance-of-payments stress. A balanced current account is already much better, and positive balances are rewarded further. Above roughly 9% of GDP, the scale rises more slowly but continues to rise, so very strong surpluses remain visibly better than merely moderate surpluses.

The World Bank indicator is based on IMF balance-of-payments data, World Bank data and OECD data and follows IMF balance-of-payments methodology. Replacement values are checked against IMF WEO, administering states and regional comparators.

This indicator measures external balance, not general economic strength. Growth, GDP per capita, inflation, public debt, foreign-exchange reserves, export structure, exchange-rate regime and economic resilience remain separate or neighbouring indicators.
