How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is gross domestic product per capita at purchasing power parity in current international dollars. Purchasing power parity adjusts for price-level differences between countries, making the value more suitable for international prosperity comparisons than a nominal US-dollar amount.

Nomadino first uses the latest non-empty value from World Bank indicator NY.GDP.PCAP.PP.CD. This series measures GDP per capita at PPP in current international dollars and is built from International Comparison Program methodology, national accounts and international data harmonisation.

For countries and territories without a separate World Bank series, Nomadino uses maintained replacement values. They are carried forward from the existing Nomadino macroeconomic data base and checked against World Bank, IMF WEO, administering-state and regional comparator context. They are marked as replacements in the source field.

The rating is calculated logarithmically from the raw value. 1,000 international dollars or less anchor the bottom of the scale, while 150,000 international dollars or more anchor the top. Between those points, the rating continues to rise with income level, but not linearly. This prevents very wealthy small economies from becoming the only meaningful benchmark for all other countries.

This indicator measures economic output and income proximity, not quality of life by itself. Inequality, wages, unemployment, prices, rents, public finances, infrastructure and social protection remain separate or neighbouring indicators.
