How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is the tax rate on ordinary cash dividends from listed shares or funds received by a resident private individual in a normal taxable brokerage account. It is displayed as a percentage. Lower percentages receive higher scores.

Nomadino measures the personal dividend burden for resident investors. If a resident dividend withholding tax is a good proxy for the final burden, it is used directly. If dividends are taxed through income tax, special dividend rates, imputation systems, gross-up rules or tax credits, a maintained replacement value is mapped to the same standard case.

Foreign-investor withholding rates, double-tax-treaty rates, retirement accounts, special accounts, ISA/IRA-like wrappers, personal allowances, small dividend allowances, local special taxes, church tax and case-specific deductions are excluded.

Corporate income tax at company level, capital gains, interest, wealth taxes, financial-transaction taxes, real-estate or REIT special rules, business assets, holding regimes and substantial-shareholding rules are also excluded. This keeps the raw value limited to private dividend payments.

The main anchor is the public PwC overview of withholding-tax rates. Nomadino uses the resident dividend component where it fits the standard case. For countries where the table line shows withholding tax but not the final personal burden, national tax information, OECD boundary logic and maintained Nomadino values are used.

If a country has no broad dividend tax for this standard case, the raw value is set to 0%. Wealth taxation or deemed-return systems are not counted as dividend tax here, so the indicator is not mixed with capital-gains or wealth-tax indicators.

The score is calculated directly and proportionally from the visible percentage: 0% receives 100 points, while 45% or more receives 5 points. Between those anchors the score declines linearly and is rounded to whole points. This prevents a lower raw value from receiving a worse score than a higher raw value.
