How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is a Nomadino point value from 0 to 100. 100 means a strong mental-health context: lower observed burden, lower suicide mortality, better care capacity, stronger governance and better general access to health care. Higher is better; the visible rating equals the raw value.

The calculation combines six components: 35% low mental-health burden, 15% low suicide mortality, 20% service capacity, 15% governance and financing, 10% general access context and 5% crisis and data-quality checks.

The burden component is directly anchored in WHO series GDO_q35 for estimated population-based depression prevalence. Because diagnosis rates and stigma can distort country comparisons, this value is bounded with plausibility checks from life expectancy, infant mortality, care quality, social cohesion and political stability.

The suicide component uses WHO age-standardized series MH_12 for both sexes. Lower values improve the rating. The component is intentionally limited to 15% because suicide is already a separate Nomadino indicator and because cultural, legal and statistical underreporting must not determine the whole mental-health rating.

Service capacity uses WHO series for psychiatrists, psychologists, mental-health nurses, social workers, outpatient facilities, day treatment, beds and units in general hospitals and community-based provision. These values are log-scaled so missing basic care is penalized strongly, while high specialist capacity is not rewarded without limit.

Governance and financing use WHO Atlas series for policy, plan, law and government mental-health expenditure. General access context uses maintained Nomadino values for care quality, universal health coverage, out-of-pocket health expenditure, medicine access and doctor density.

For countries and territories without complete WHO series, Nomadino uses maintained replacement values derived from the same health, social, administrative and stability indicators. Where both burden and suicide data are missing, an uncertainty ceiling limits the maximum rating so replacement values do not disproportionately outrank directly observed countries.

War, state collapse, severe political instability or very weak administration can limit maximum values. This indicator is not an individual diagnosis, not a city-level therapy-access measure, not live crisis support and not a general happiness ranking.
