How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is the statutory or broadly binding gross monthly minimum wage in US dollars. It means the wage floor for adult full-time employees before income tax and employee contributions. Higher raw values receive higher scores.

Where a country publishes a national statutory monthly minimum wage, Nomadino uses that value directly. Hourly, daily or weekly rates are converted to a monthly amount: hourly rate times regular full-time weekly hours times 52 divided by 12; weekly rates are also multiplied by 52 and divided by 12. Legally guaranteed 13th or 14th payments are included as an annual amount and then divided by 12.

For regional, sectoral or occupational minimum-wage systems, Nomadino uses the broadest adult full-time value. If there is no single national rate, a labour-market or population-weighted main value is estimated. Youth, apprentice, trainee and other special sub-minimum rates are not used as the standard value.

Countries without a national statutory minimum wage are not automatically set to zero. If broad binding wage floors from collective agreements, sector rules or administrative practice materially shape the labour market, Nomadino uses a maintained replacement value. Such values support comparability and are not treated as official point measurements.

Local-currency values are converted into US dollars with World Bank series PA.NUS.FCRF. Where the latest minimum wage is newer than the last available World Bank exchange-rate value, Nomadino uses the latest non-empty exchange-rate value and checks large currency movements against WageIndicator, Eurostat and national sources.

This indicator does not measure net wages, purchasing power or overall labour-market quality. A high minimum wage can be offset by high prices, high deductions or weak enforcement. Average net salary, purchasing-power index, unemployment rate, wage growth and salary-to-rent ratio therefore remain separate indicators.

The score rises monotonically with the visible monthly amount. Very low values below roughly 50 USD sit near the bottom, 200 to 500 USD is low to lower-middle, 800 to 1,800 USD is solid, 2,400 to 3,000 USD is very high, and values around 3,800 USD reach the upper end of the scale.
