How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is the unemployment rate as a percent of the labour force. It counts people without work who are available for work and actively seeking employment. Lower percentages receive higher scores.

The main anchor is World Bank indicator SL.UEM.TOTL.ZS. It is based on ILO modelled estimates and provides an internationally comparable unemployment rate for the total labour force. Nomadino uses the latest non-empty annual value for each country.

The unemployment rate is not mixed with wage level, purchasing power, poverty, informal employment or underemployment. These factors may strongly affect real living conditions, but they remain separate or neighbouring indicators. This keeps the raw value clear: percent of the labour force without work under the ILO definition.

For countries and territories without a separate World Bank series, Nomadino uses maintained replacement values. They are checked against available labour-market data, administering states, regional comparators, and OECD or Eurostat series. Replacements are not treated as official point measurements.

The score decreases monotonically as the visible percentage rises. Very low unemployment from 0 to 2% is close to the full score, 4 to 6% remains strong, 8 to 10% is mid-range, 15 to 20% is materially weak, and very high values around 35 to 50% sit near the lower end of the scale.

ILO and World Bank metadata note that modelled or imputed values can be less certain where national data are missing. Nomadino still uses this series as the broadest global comparison anchor, while using maintained replacements where direct country coverage is missing.
