Women’s Safety in Uruguay

The women’s safety indicator assesses how safe and protected women are in Uruguay in international comparison. The raw value is 62 safety points. The score equals the raw value, so it is 62/100; globally this means rank 94 of 229.

What the Raw Value Measures

The raw value is a Nomadino index on a scale from 0 to 100. It does not only measure perceived safety in public space, but combines everyday safety, violence against women, legal protection, institutional implementation, general safety conditions and social equality.

The separation from other safety indicators matters: homicide rate, petty crime, terrorism risk, political stability and active conflicts are rated separately by Nomadino. They are used here only where they are relevant to women’s concrete safety.

Context for Daily Life and Stays

The value is in the middle range. Protection structures exist, but legal, social or security-related weaknesses limit the rating.

For travellers, expats and relocation decisions, this indicator is especially relevant because women’s safety cannot be inferred from general crime alone. Protection against domestic and sexual violence, access to help, policing practice, social norms, everyday mobility and safety in cities, nightlife and rural regions also matter.

Methodology and Data Basis

The rating combines five components: everyday safety and perceived safety in public space, violence against women or comparable violence proxies, legal protection and institutional implementation, general safety conditions, and social autonomy and gender equality.

For countries or territories without full international coverage, harmonised Nomadino fallbacks are used. These are derived from the administering state, regional environment, legal framework, conflict exposure, policing practice and comparable neighbouring or reference countries.
