How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value is the adult literacy rate for people aged 15 and above in percent. 100% means virtually all adults can read and write; 0% would mean complete adult illiteracy.

The main source is World Bank series SE.ADT.LITR.ZS, based on UNESCO Institute for Statistics data and national surveys. Nomadino uses the latest non-empty value for each country because education surveys are not updated in the same year everywhere.

For countries and territories without a current separate series, Nomadino uses maintained replacement values. They are mapped from the administering state, UNESCO/World Bank context, regional comparators, historical series and existing education indicators.

The rating equals the rounded percentage value: 100% receives 100 points, 85% receives 85 points and 0% receives 0 points. This keeps the link between raw value and rating easy to understand.

This indicator measures foundational education. It does not replace education quality, tertiary access, education duration or education expenditure; those dimensions are rated separately in this board.
