Forest Cover

This ranking compares forest cover across countries. The raw value shows forest area as a percentage of land area. Higher forest cover receives a higher rating up to a practical cap of 75 percent; values above that do not add further benefit.

How the Raw Value Is Calculated

The raw value shows forest area as a percentage of land area. It measures forested land share, not the quality of individual forests, urban greenery, parks or actual accessibility.

The main public data anchor is World Bank series AG.LND.FRST.ZS, based on FAO forest-area data. Nomadino uses the latest non-empty value for each country.

For countries and territories without their own World Bank series, Nomadino uses maintained replacement values from existing Nomadino values, administering state, island or territory context and regional comparators.

The rating increases linearly up to 75 percent forest cover. 75 percent or more receives 100 points, 37.5 percent receives about 50 points and 0 percent receives 0 points.

This cap prevents extremely forest-rich countries from automatically dominating every nature comparison. Forest cover matters, but beach access, mountains, protected areas and biodiversity remain separate indicators.
